Cargo Handling

The vessels we operate in Bass Strait are purpose built and use a "roll on/roll off" system.

A container is lifted from a truck by forklift
and placed on a cassette.

The vessels can handle all types of freight including trailers, mobiles, cars and containers.

Containers are handled by a special method using "Cassettes" which is a very efficient way of loading and unloading containers on vessels.

cassette
A cassette is a 40' steel pallet
which holds four 20' containers.

Loading Cassettes

The cassette is moved using a "tow tractor" which is a prime mover with a lifting device (translifter) attached.

The translifter slides in underneath the cassette and lifts it as one unit.
The tow tractor and translifter are driven onto the ship and the cassette is stowed.
